Goals and Strategies


  • Strengthen the effectiveness of land conservation efforts.
    • Provide training, networking and inspirational opportunities to land conservation practitioners.
    • Deepen and broaden communications within the conservation community.
    • Develop and provide guidance and technical assistance materials.
    • Provide direct technical assistance and financial incentives to increase the quality and quantity of conservation work.
    • Promote land trust excellence and efficiency.

  • Improve governmental policy impacting land and water conservation.
    • Represent land trust interests to government officials and inform them on land trusts and their work.
    • Maintain a public policy agenda.
    • Advocate for better governmental policy.
  • Raise public awareness of land conservation tools, benefits, needs and opportunities, while fostering positive relationships between land conservation organizations and others.
    • Develop marketing and communications plans to promote land conservation and land trusts.
    • Communicate about land conservation and land trusts.
    • Reach out to private and public sector entities to find and build upon common interests.
  • Build a stronger, more effective organization.
    • Strengthen and diversify the funding base.
    • Make organizational structure and systems changes to more fully utilize the skills, talents and energies of board members, advisors, volunteers and staff.
    • Follow the strategic plan and amend it as necessary.
