Hawk Mountain Sanctuary recently announced that Gigi Romano, of Allentown, will serve as the Sanctuary’s new Communications Specialist, taking over the communications duties recently handled by Director of Communication & Grants, Mary Linkevich. Linkevich has accepted a new position and departs in July.
Romano will be responsible for social media, website management, and other published content, including building the Sanctuary’s online presence and its rigorous public relations program. She also will oversee production of the Sanctuary’s biannual member magazine, Hawk Mountain News, as well as promote Sanctuary events, workshops, walks, and talks.
Outgoing Director of Communications and Grants Mary Linkevich is confident in Romano’s abilities and pleased for the Sanctuary.
“Hawk Mountain is dedicated to its global raptor conservation mission, but a global audience requires a much stronger focus on social media and inbound marketing. A dedicated communications specialist will allow that work to happen, and I’m excited that Gigi can focus exclusively on this important work,” she says.
Gigi earned a B.A. in Professional Writing from Kutztown University and is no stranger to the Sanctuary. She served earlier in the year as a communications intern as well as a freelancer.
“Working for the Sanctuary is the opportunity of a lifetime. I feel so welcomed and truly enjoy the work that I get to do,” she said.
The 2,500-acre Hawk Mountain Sanctuary is the world’s first refuge for birds of prey and is open to the public year-round by trail-fee or membership, which in turn supports the non-profit organization’s raptor conservation mission and local-to-global research, training, and education programs.
