The Lancaster County Conservancy announced the acquisition of 24 acres of natural river buffer land in Conoy Township along the Susquehanna River, just south of the Falmouth boat launch. 
This acquisition is the result of a gift from the Pine Tree Conservation Society through Sally Jeffords. The property is bisected by the Northwest Lancaster County River Trail and provides critical bird habitat and recreational access to the river. It includes springs, meadows, and forest vegetation.
The buffer land is within the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources conservation landscape known as the Susquehanna Riverlands, where the Conservancy plays a leading role.
The Conoy river buffer property protects land that provides important connections to recreation, habitat, and water resources. “While this is our first acquisition of forested river property in Conoy Township, it won’t be our last,” said Kate Gonick, in-house counsel and director of land protection at the Conservancy.
“Our job is to protect these exquisitely beautiful natural places for future generations,” said Phil Wenger, Conservancy CEO. “The Susquehanna River gorge is such an amazing place for habitat, waterfowl, recreation, and opportunities for conservation.”
