Peter Lane is a Senior Program Associate with the Institute for Conservation Leadership, where he has been employed since 1998. Peter currently manages ICL’s programming in the mid-Atlantic and the Great Lakes regions. In addition, Peter manages ICL’s custom-designed services with grassroots environmental and conservation organizations by assessing the needs of groups, and managing the planning and delivery of training, consultation, and other technical assistance projects. He is also a facilitator for ICL’s Leading From Within program. Peter also facilitates strategic planning processes and retreats, and has led training sessions on organizational change, board development, organizational assessment and benchmarking, volunteer management and leadership development. Peter has over twenty years of experience working with a variety of nonprofit organizations throughout the Washington, DC area.

We’ve all heard the legends of organizations that have made big money through online efforts. And we all know of organizations that have had their online efforts rewarded with a net loss. So what’s the deal with raising money online? Is it the next big thing or is it overrated? In this session, we’ll learn what makes for a successful online effort, what groups like yours can realistically expect, and the systems and capacities groups should have in place. You’ll leave with tools, practical tips, and ideas for your next online fundraising effort and examples of how it can work for you, drawn from the environmental movement and ICL’s publication, Reality Check: How Grassroots Environmental Organizations Are (or Are Not) Raising Money Online.
