Quote of the Day

“The people have a right to clean air, pure water, and to the preservation of the natural, scenic, historic and esthetic values of the environment. Pennsylvania's public natural resources are the common property of all the people, including generations yet to come. As trustee of these resources, the Commonwealth shall conserve and maintain them for the benefit of all the people.”

Conservationists, past and present, have conserved 18% of the Commonwealth and roughly the same amount has been developed.  This leaves the future of more than 60% of Pennsylvania’s land up in the air. What will happen to our land without well-equipped conservationists, adequate conservation funding, and strong land use policies?

The Pennsylvania Land Trust  Association accomplishes the behind the scenes work so that conservationists can focus their efforts on what they do best…conservation. The Association doesn’t conserve the land but secures and protects state funding sources that make permanent land protection possible. The Association doesn’t hold easements but provides the comprehensive guidance and resources needed to make easements stronger. For more than a decade, the Association has advocated for land conservation and land trusts, guarding against proposals that would damage the land as well as developing and promoting legislative initiatives to advance conservation. See A Record of Success: Policy Endeavors of the Pennsylvania Land Trust Association .

Your individual support – whether $50, $500 or $5,000 – will go along way to promote conservation advocacy and outreach in Pennsylvania.  Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.  Financial statements are available upon request.

The people of the Pennsylvania Land Trust Association envision a prosperous Pennsylvania, where communities know that their treasured green places will endure. We envision a Commonwealth where the lands that guarantee our water quality are safeguarded; where every child can safely play at a nearby park; where our productive farmland and forests are protected, securing our food and timber supply; and where wild places are preserved for wildlife and people.

Thank you to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for supporting the Association’s conservation efforts.
