In February, the Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation recommended slashing tax deductions for conservation easement donations. PALTA, with support of its membership and authorized by the Board of Directors, has developed a Position Statement on Conservation Issues Under Discussion in Congress in reaction to the Committee's findings. The statement was released on June 28, 2005.
In addition, in response to Senator Santorum's compelling testimony before the Senate Finance Committee against the elimination of these tax deductions, PALTA would like to publicly thank the Senator for his hard work and committment to this issue. PALTA sent a letter to Sen. Santorum in late June, expressing graditude for his support.
