The Pennsylvania Land Trust Association is holding a two-day Natural Gas and Land Conservation Conference on June 19 and 20, 2008 in Harrisburg at the Felicita Garden Resort & Spa. Registration is limited to 100 people.
The conference has been organized in response to the dramatic increase in natural gas exploration and drilling activities and realization of the huge impact this is already having on conservation.
Day one is a general session designed to help people achieve a better understanding of the natural gas arena. It is appropriate for land trusts, local governments, agricultural land preservation boards and anyone else seeking to gain knowledge on the geology, physical impacts, legal aspects, regulations, best management practices, and more of natural gas exploration, leasing, extraction, transportation and storage of natural gas.
Day two is specifically designed for lands trusts and local governments with active open space programs. Most of the day will be spent discussing and deliberating appropriate land trust (or municipal) land and easement acquisition and stewardship policies and practices vis-à-vis natural gas activities. Participants will also explore how they might work collectively to address natural gas issues. (Please do not register for day two before reviewing the agenda to ensure that it will be of interest to you. PALTA will be happy to help agricultural land preservation boards organize a separate track for the substantial portion of day two that would not be relevant to ag boards.)
We have made registration for day one a prerequisite for day two, because day two will work best if everyone has at least a basic knowledge of the natural gas field.
Registration covers all relevant meals including Thursday dinner at the beautiful 750-acre Felicita Garden Resort & Spa (http://www.felicitaresort.com). The conference will be held in the Garden Room, which is housed in the Inn right off Route 443 (see map).
Due to the overwhelming interest, the 100-person limit, and the short time-line, we urge you to register ASAP to ensure your participation.

- Mail a check for the appropriate amount made payable to PALTA ASAP.
- If needed, make your lodging arrangements with the Felicita ASAP (888-321-3713).
