Director of Land Protection
Finger Lakes Land Trust
The Finger Lakes Land Trust, a regional non-profit land conservation organization, is seeking a full-time Director of Land Protection to work from its Ithaca, New York office.
The Land Trust works cooperatively with landowners and local communities to conserve those lands that define the character of the Finger Lakes Region.
Since it was founded in 1989, the organization has conserved 11,000 acres of significant open space through the use of conservation easements, the establishment of nature preserves, and the provision of technical assistance to local governments and local nonprofit organizations. The organization is today supported by seven full-time and two part-time staff and an extensive network of volunteers.
The Director of Land Protection works closely with the Executive Director and other staff and volunteers to advance the organization’s land protection efforts. The position requires frequent travel throughout a 12-county region and calls for a flexible work schedule.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Land Protection is responsible for leading the Land Trust’s land protection programs and assuming primary responsibility for direction and implementation of the organization’s conservation easement program. The Director of Land Protection also completes land acquisition projects and supervises the Land Protection Specialist and occasional contractors.
The Director of Land Protection oversees their own portfolio of projects while also coordinating projects being undertaken by several other staff. This position works closely with the Land Trust’s Director of Stewardship, Director of Development, and the Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Project Manager to ensure that land protection activities are closely linked to the organization’s fundraising and stewardship efforts.
