This full-day, interactive seminar will examine and discuss issues related to natural gas drilling in the Marcellus Shale and how drilling activity can impact conservation efforts.

Sat1e: Statewide Study on Impacts of Marcellus Shale

The PA League of Women Voters has conducted an impartial study regarding the extraction of natural gas from Marcellus Shale with extensive focus on economic and environmental implications. Additionally, the study reviews taxation and the overall process of natural gas production from the well to the consumer. This session will reveal the study findings.

Local planning is essential to help control or minimize the negative effects of drilling on land use, water, the environment, and population, but regulatory authority isn’t always clear. In addition, much of the Marcellus development is occurring in parts of the state where land use planning has not been consistently used.
