Following the 2015 listening sessions and public comment period for suggestions for improvements to the 6th edition of the Model Grant of Conservation Easement, PALTA prepared a draft of a 7th edition for public review. Users reviewed the draft at sessions during the 2016 Pennsylvania Land Conservation Conference. PALTA then made modest changes to the draft in response to these initial discussions. The latest draft (5/27/2016) is posted at http://conservationtools.org/library_items/323 as both a clean document and a markup of the sixth edition .
Please email your comments to email@example.com no later than June 30.
The next steps in PALTA’s draft revision and public review plan, as well as the schedule, will depend on the nature of the comments received during this phase of the new edition’s development. (PALTA plans to circulate for review a thoroughly revised and expanded commentary once the model nears completion.)
The Pennsylvania Land Trust Association published the 6th edition of the model in 2011. PALTA hopes that, after the 7th edition, another edition won’t be desirable or necessary until 2021 or later.
NOTE FOR PEOPLE NEW TO THE MODEL: The model is accompanied by a lengthy commentary that explains the reasoning behind every provision, instructs on use of the model, and provides a wealth of alternative and optional provisions. The model’s strength and flexibility cannot be fully tapped without use of the commentary! While the 7th edition commentary is a work in progress, you can download the 6th edition commentary at http://conservationtools.org/library_items/323. You can also download a Quick Start Guide to the model there.
