The Pennsylvania Land Trust Association congratulates the Land Trust Alliance on establishing robust opportunities for public comment and discussion on the revision of Land Trust Standards and Practices.
Association staff previously commented using the Alliance’s Ethelo interactive public forum. Today, the board of directors of the Pennsylvania Land Trust Association submitted a comment via email that addresses an overarching question regarding Standards and Practices: How does a land trust board’s exercise of judgment relate to Standards and Practices? The comment begins:
Previously adopted organizational policies, Land Trust Standards and Practices (S&P), and other codes of behavior are no substitute for board judgment as applied to specific circumstances. These policies and codes provide crucial guidance to boards and often reflect decades of collective wisdom applicable to most situations.
